Sergeant Al Gonzalez Retires From the Sheriff’s Office

Gonzalez(Paulding County, GA) On July 13, 2017 a reception was held at the Sheriff’ Office to honor the service of Sergeant Al Gonzalez with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Gonzalez retired from the Sheriff’s Office on July 14, 2017 after sixteen and a half years of service with the agency. Sergeant Gonzalez began his career with the Sheriff’s Office on December 6, 2000 when he worked in the jail as a Detention Officer. From there he attended basic mandate training at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy. Once he graduated from the academy, he worked in the patrol division until he transferred to the Crime Suppression Unit. After working in the Crime Suppression Unit, he moved to the DUI Task Force / Traffic Unit where he spent the majority of his career.
Sergeant Gonzalez spent the bulk of his career working and supervising the DUI Task Force / Traffic Unit at the Sheriff’s Office. Sergeant Gonzalez is single handedly responsible for getting hundreds of drunk drivers off our roads and slowing down thousands of speeding motorists. Sergeant Gonzalez has always worked diligently to help keep the motoring public safe by conducting DUI check points, Operation Zero Tolerance patrols, speed enforcement campaigns, along with other Governor’s Office of Highway Safety initiatives.
Several years ago Sergeant Gonzalez was the driving force in creating a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit within the Traffic Unit which enforced Federal Commercial Motor Carrier Laws on commercial motor vehicles. Eventually, the State of Georgia quit allowing local cities and counties to enforce those laws, but Sergeant Gonzalez helped spearhead that unit.
Sergeant Gonzalez will be sorely missed by his co-workers and friends at the Sheriff’s Office. His diligence and passion for keeping our roads safe will have a lasting impact on the citizens of Paulding County for years to come. We hope Sergeant Gonzalez enjoys his well-deserved retirement from law enforcement.
