The journey of the Little Red Wagon

redwagonOn March 22th Rep. Micah Gravley and Roger Leggett were invited to the Israeli Consulate in Atlanta to meet with Consul General of Israel, Ambassador Judith Varnai Shorer to discuss a request from Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel. Late in the 2018 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly Rep. Gravley had placed a call to his campaign chairman, Roger Leggett. During the conversation, Rep. Gravley spoke to Roger about two resolutions he had sponsored and worked on regarding the State of Israel. The resolutions had passed both the House and the Senate just days before and were gaining positive media attention from the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Israel.
Rep. Gravley’s mention of the resolutions during the call promoted Roger to mention a request he had received from a father in Israel wanting to obtain one of the “Chad’s Bracket” Radio Flyer Wagons for his young son who had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, stage 4 cancer. Roger stated to Rep Gravley “this is perfect timing.” Roger explained to Rep. Gravley that the employees at Lockheed Martin had already paid for the wagon and it was ready to be delivered, but the cost of sending the wagon to Israel would have exceeded $1,000 and, there was no guarantee the wagon would be able to make it through customs to be delivered to the family.
Rep. Gravley told the Dallas New Era “I knew immediately that God was going to take care of this and that this phone call with Uncle Roger was happening for this very reason.” Ambassador Shorer was invited to the State Capitol as the guest of Speaker Ralston to speak before the entire House and receive the resolutions. Speaker Raslton co-sponsored the resolutions with Rep. Gravley. During the Capitol visit, Rep. Gravley was able to speak to Ambassador Shorer about the request and ask for her assistance with the wagon.
“God works in mysterious ways. I never knew that working on these resolutions would lead to fulfilling a father request for his son all the way in Israel” said Rep. Gravley. Days before the legislative session was to conclude, Ambassador Shorer invited Rep. Gravley and Roger Leggett to meet with her and her staff. During the meeting, the ambassador told Rep. Gravley and Roger that she would be sending the wagon with diplomatic importance directly to the hospital covering any costs associated with the delivery.
“Roger Leggett is an inspiration and an outstanding citizen. The work he’s doing through “Chad’s Bracket” is a blessing to so many families in need of encouragement. I am honored to represent him and call him “Uncle Roger.” said Rep. Gravley.
On April, 18th, 2018, Rep. Gravley received word from the Israeli Consulate that the wagon had been received by the family.
