Paulding County Fire Named Georgia Emergency Medical Service of the Year

best firedeptPaulding County Fire & Rescue (PCFD) has been named the 2020 “EMS Service of the Year” by the State of Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma - Region I. PCFD is the first-ever agency licensed at the first responder level to win this prestigious award.
The award is presented annually to a licensed Emergency Medical Service which “exemplifies outstanding professionalism on the local, regional and state levels, as well as service to the community it serves.”
David Foster, Georgia Department of EMS & Trauma’s Regional Director, commended PCFD for numerous advancements made in providing its citizens high-quality emergency medical care. Those include commissioning PCFD’s Heavy Squad 1, with extensive tactical rescue capabilities, and successfully hosting & graduating the very first Advanced EMT class conducted totally in-house.
Chief Joey Pelfrey commented “Although we were chartered in 1980 as a Fire Department, we are proud to receive this EMS recognition. Providing quality medical care for our citizens is profoundly important. Last year we responded to a total of 16,259 emergency calls. More than 75% of them were for medical service - making this by-far our most common type of 911 call. This State of Georgia recognition is a credit to nearly 200 employees who work for PCFD and their passion to provide the very best patient care to those we serve.”
