Each year GreyStone Power hosts its Safety Breakfast to commend employees for their efforts in making their work and home life safer. Years ago GreyStone implemented the Stop, Think, Act, Report safety program which encourages employees to file reports of unsafe acts, and how they corrected them. The program has received national attention for its far-reaching effects to keep safety at the top of employees’ priorities. In 2015 there were 3,541 unsafe acts submitted, which averages out to 14 reports and actions per employee. GreyStone has embraced the program, said President/CEO Gary Miller. “If only 10 percent of those reports prevented an injury or accident from happening, there are 350 people who did not suffer some type of accident or injury,” Miller said.
Line Foreman Patrick LeCroy and Apprentice Lineman III Robbie Fite were recognized as the two GreyStone employees making the greatest impact on keeping GreyStone and the community safe over the past year. After the breakfast Attorney Jonathan Martin spoke to employees. The title of his speech was “Better a thousand times careful, than one time dead.” Martin drove home the point that to know safety meant to have no injury, but if there is no safety then employees will know injury. His comments directly line up with one of GreyStone’s nine safety guiding principles. It states, “All injuries are preventable.” GreyStone Power serves more than 110,000 members in portions of eight counties, including portions of Douglas, Paulding, Fulton, Cobb, Carroll, Bartow, Fayette and Coweta counties.
