During their July session Hiram city council set new sanitation rates following a public hearing and will consider budget amendments, and uses for the remaining 2017 SPLOST in a work session to be held next week.
Prior to the public hearing, City Manager Barry Atkison recognized graduates from Hiram’s Citizens Police Academy and David Carmichael, Paulding Board of Commissioners Chairman candidate, introduced himself to the Mayor and Council and citizens at the meeting. Carmichael is in next week’s run-off election with candidate Roger Leggett.
Mayor Teresa Philyaw called the Public Hearing to order for the purpose of receiving public comment in consideration of increasing residential sanitation service rates. Herb Haynes requested that the city put the contract for residential sanitation services out for bid. With no additional input the public hearing was adjourned.
Moving on to regular business, the council denied Mike Khateeb’s appeal of the denial of his application for a sign permit and then adopted Resolution 2016-05, setting new residential sanitation service rates.
Mayor and Council members also authorized Atkison to facilitate the reinvestment of two Certificates of Deposit within the General Fund, as stated in the meeting agenda. And the council authorized the Public Works Director to obtain quotes for construction of a sign at The Events Place and also approved the purchase of a 2016 Ford F-150XL 4x4 for Code Enforcement, for an amount not to exceed $30,000, to be funded out of police SPLOST.Hiram
