Cobb EMC hosts STEM Career Day Event teaches 131 local students about STEM career opportunities

Cobb EMC recently hosted 131 fifth-graders for a STEM Career Day event, which was designed to educate local students about opportunities in the growing career field.
During the event, students spent the morning observing STEM-based careers in electric operations at Cobb EMC. They also visited the cooperative’s Power Control Center where they learned about system automation and remote outage restoration.
Cobb EMC employees covered topics that closely aligned with the students’ curriculum. Students learned about how electricity is generated, fiber optic communications, metering and lighting controls and later split into teams to build circuits on circuit boards. The day ended with a power line safety demonstration.
Attendees included students from the following elementary schools: Allatoona, Baker, Big Shanty, Clark Creek, Dowell, Due West, Ford, LaBelle, Oak Grove, Russell, Russom and Timber Ridge.
Over the past 25 years, Cobb EMC has hosted more than 1,700 local students for Career Days to help prepare them for future career opportunities.STEMCareer800
