The largest adoption event and pet festival in years will hit the Paulding County area Saturday, June 4, 2016. The Paws & Claws Festival: Celebrating Tails of a New Life is an event dedicated to helping the homeless pets of this county and the surrounding areas. Held in the parking of the Tractor Supply in Dallas on Highway 278, the festival will feature eight rescue organizations as well as the Paulding County Animal Control and the American Reptile Association. The following rescue organizations will be present at the event:

  • Rotts n Pups Rescue
  • Courtney’s Canine Care Rescue
  • Dog Days Rescue
  • Help for the Dogs
  • BullyWag
  • Bikers Against Animal Abuse and Neglect
  • Inspire Pet Rescue
  • Your New Best Friend Pet Rescue

In addition to the more than 50 animals available for adoption, there will be guest speakers and events occurring throughout the day. A professional dog trainer will perform demonstrations and teach the audience basic training techniques. From the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy First Class Brandon Kilgore will visit with K-9 officer Verro at 2 p.m. There will also be $5 nail trims available all day at the booth for Happy Tails Ranch, a local grooming and boarding facility. For the pets that have that special spunk, there will be a Pet Idol with categories including Best Trick, Smallest, Tallest, Most Affectionate, and “So Ugly They’re Cute!” Prize packages for the winners include a first place plaque, coupons and goodies for both the owner and the pet. Judging starts at 1pm.
Even those who already have a pet or who just want to relax for the day are welcome at the festival. With more than two dozen vendors from home-based businesses, there is a little something for everyone. Handmade wreaths, custom decals, a photo booth and authentic wooden cutting boards are just some of the wares available at the event.
Food vendors will offer everything from Little Caesar’s pizza to hamburgers and hotdogs. The classics, like funnel cake and fried Oreos, have their spot, as well as fresh-squeezed homemade lemonade.
Overall, the Paws & Claws Festival is meant to help the homeless pets in our community in any way possible. Adopting out more pets, collecting donations for the animal shelter, and putting a part of the proceeds from raffle tickets back into the cause are all ways to save a life at the event. Check out the festival Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Tractor Supply in Dallas. Help us create Tails of a New Life.
