Mrs. Naomi Corley Holland, widow of the late Attorney Hubert G. Holland has donated 4 framed copies of The Gettysburg Address in Abraham Lincoln’s handwriting to the 4 Paulding County Public Libraries. Mrs. Holland purchased a copy at an Estate Sale. When she questioned the owners at the Sale about its origin they did not know where they had obtained it. It was in a frame and in good shape. Mrs. Holland took it out of the frame and had color copies made and framed at House of Frames.
“Education is my goal in life,” says Mrs. Holland. “Who has ever owned a copy of The Gettysburg Address written by Lincoln in his handwriting? Everyone that sees it wants a copy. Hubert would have liked to preserve this piece of history by giving copies to every library in Paulding County.”
Her late husband Hubert Holland started going to the Library as a boy and he also had a passion for education. Hubert and Naomi have been faithful supporters of the Paulding County Library System for many years by donating money to the library and leading library fundraisers. They had established 2 separate Trust Funds in the 1980’s for the benefit of the Paulding County Library and those Trust Funds continue to benefit the library every year. At that time Paulding only had one library, The Paulding County Library recently renamed The Dallas Library. They also led a major fundraiser in the 1980’s with the Bradford Pear Tree project encouraging people to donate $1000 or more to the library. This project raised $19,000 for the library and has recently been replaced with the Hubert and Naomi Holland Reading Garden at the Dallas Library where the fund raising continues for the Library with the patio brick paver project giving donors the opportunity to purchase bricks for a $150 donation/brick. In return he donor can have a personal engraved message on the brick paver. For more information email or call Cherry Waddell at or 678-224-4393.
Mrs. Holland has a very large family and is proud of every member of her family. Four of her great nieces and nephews are pictured at The Dallas Library on Thursday, July 14, 2016 presenting the donated framed copies of The Gettysburg Address to each of the four Paulding County Libraries.
