GreyStone members began capturing their share of the sun by signing up for Cooperative Solar at GreyStone’s 79 th Annual Meeting of Members. A total of 279 members signed up for solar reported President/CEO Gary Miller to members at the meeting. More than 1,200 GreyStone Power members plus their families attended the meeting Oct. 8th.
Members gathered at GreyStone’s Douglasville office for the festivities, which included a a Solar Energy Expo, vendors, as well as a Health Fair. The amusement area kept families busy with inflatables for children, games, balloon artists and face painters. Children had the chance to learn about using electricity safely when employees presented interactive “Safety City” demonstrations.
Children were able to learn how to avoid injuries by visiting the “Safe Kids” tent. Members enjoyed a free Chick-fil- A® biscuit while they listened to a musical performance from Grammy nominated John Ford Coley. This year’s Solar Energy Expo included multiple solar energy seminars presented by GreyStone’s Residential Energy Services department. A Co-op Connections® Card (CCC) display was set up for members to learn about all the discounts GreyStone members can receive. RWB Tax Service was on hand to talk to members about their special offer.
During the business portion of the meeting, Miller reported on the co-op’s achievements for the past year, including pioneering Cooperative Solar and the recent Public Service Commission survey showing that Georgia Power customers pay 30 percent more than GreyStone members for 1,500 kilowatt hours monthly, which is the average usage for members during the summer.
Also, during the business meeting members present elected Lucy Andres, Jennifer DeNyse and David Hagenow by voice vote to represent their respective districts. Andres will replace Ed Garrard, who retired at the Annual Meeting and were honored for his contributions. GreyStone’s board officers were elected, including Chair Milton Jones, Vice Chair Maribeth Wansley and Secretary-Treasurer Jim Johns. The event concluded with 47 door prizes, which included three GreyStone bill credits and a 40-inch smart television. The grand-prize giveaway was a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck retired from the GreyStone fleet, which was won by Melissa King.
