Fatal Shooting in Paulding County

UPDATE:
The only update we have in this case is the release of the victim’s name. The victim in this case is Mark Phillips, 34 YOA, B/M. Phillips resided at 553 Crestbend Lane Powder Springs, GA 30127 which was the location of the murder. At this time, we do not have any more information to release about what took place during the incident.

Paulding County, GA At approximately 12:39 am on January 13, 2017 Deputies responded to 553 Crestbend Lane Powder Springs, GA reference a possible shooting. The incident took place inside the Meadows at Northcrest Subdivision which is in unincorporated Paulding County. When Deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the female homeowner who was extremely distraught. Once they entered the residence they found a 34 year old black male that was unconscious and not breathing who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound. Despite Deputies’ attempts at first aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
As soon as the residence was secure, Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived to begin their investigation and to process the scene. Through the course of the investigation it was determined that multiple shots were fired during the incident. After speaking with the female homeowner, it was determined that an unknown number of males got into an altercation with the victim which ultimately ended in gunfire.
At this point, further details in the case are developing and various leads are still being investigated. Detectives also stated that this did not appear to be a random act of violence. They further indicated that the victim appeared to have been targeted by the suspect(s). Since not all of the family has been notified of the victim’s death, we are unable to release his name at this time.
