University of Georgia student Chloe Hamby receives Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship

Chloe533Athens, Ga. — University of Georgia student Chloe Hamby, a rising junior studying political science from Douglasville, Ga., was awarded the highly competitive Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to help fund her international studies this summer. She is one of 16 students from the University of Georgia — and 1,200 students nationally — to receive the scholarship for the summer 2017 academic term.
“Without the Gilman Scholarship, I would not have been able to study abroad at all, and I am beyond grateful for this opportunity,” said Hamby. A graduate of South Paulding High School, she plans to use this scholarship to study abroad in Verona, Italy, on a program with the UGA School of Public and International Affairs.
Chloe Hamby discovered this scholarship and others through the UGA Education Abroad website, goabroad.uga.edu. She also was awarded scholarships from the School of Public and International Affairs and the Office of Experiential Learning.
“It is a thrill to work with the students on their applications and see their hard work come through,” said Jacklyn Fisher, education abroad adviser in the Office of International Education. “Our gratitude goes out to the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program, the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education for supporting their study abroad plans.”
The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship awards students up to $5,000 to apply toward their study abroad or internship program costs. The program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go.
The full list of UGA students who have been selected to receive summer-term Gilman Scholarships, including students’ hometown and host country, is available on the OIE website: http://international.uga.edu/about/news/194-uga-s-2017-gilman-scholarship-recipients.
