Freedom Ramp Ministry 2018 Update

RampMinistry 600We are all familiar with the Methodist Youth Ministry “River of Life”. Youth and adults come together 3 to 4 days in the summer to do all kinds of repairs and improvements to seniors and needy families in our area. In 2014 one of the projects was to build a wheelchair ramp.
Mike Eastman helped build one of the River of Life wheelchair ramps and realized that they were needed more often than once a year. Mike, who attends New Covenant Methodist Church stepped in to lead the Ramp Ministry at their church.
As of today, 57 ramps have been built at no cost to the person in need. The ramp team is comprised of members from Methodist, Baptist, Episcopal, Catholic, and Pentecostal Churches in surrounding counties.
The team’s most memorable ramp was in Peachtree City where they built a ramp 48 ft long in 4 days. 32 volunteers showed up to each gives their skills to this wonderful cause. Mike said “after many of our builds, the recipient would tell us “we gave them their freedom back”.
As a result of that statement, we voted to name our ministry “Freedom Ramp Ministry’. Mike’s part of the ministry is going out to inspect the site, do project drawings and figure materials. But, Mike says the real Heroes are all the volunteers that show up on Saturday to build a most rewarding project to people in need. “Men, women and even children all give their time making the miracle happen”.

**This past week The Dallas New Era was contacted for help for a young lady and we reached out to Janis Woods, who then reached out to her brother Mike. And, here is the response from Mike Eastman.

RampMinistry 800

Here we go again, but this time our longest wheelchair ramp EVER!! This ramp, number 59, is going to be over 125 feet long and will be built in Dallas Ga. for a lady with knee replacement complications. Two surgeries already and a third already planned for a total replacement again. And if that's not enough she is on dialysis also. She has been in a rehab center in Dallas Ga., since September 2017 and can't go home UNLESS she has a wheelchair ramp into the house. No ramp No trip home. We are going to get Mrs. Walker home. We need all our Ramp team to help. We are going to have a pre-built team assemble Friday Feb.16 at 8:30 am to spot the ramp and build platform boxes for a faster assembly on Saturday the 17th at 8:30 am. We hope to complete this ramp in one day. A major task I know, but if it can be done, our awesome team of volunteers can make it happen. If you have helped in the past or want to get in now, we need you. If you can't help in the build, maybe consider a financial donation. ANY amount will help! Please send donations to New Covenant United Methodist Church @ 5960 Hwy 5, Douglasville Ga. 30135 and mark it Walker ramp. Even a $1.00 donation will help on our most costly ramp build yet. All our 58 ramps so far, have been built 100% by donations from caring people like yourself. Thank you for following our labor of love. We enjoy building these wheelchair ramps and the fellowship is awesome. God's work for God's people.
How amazing is that?? Please feel free to help with a contribution or if you want, to volunteer. Let’s get Mrs. Walker her “Freedom” back! For more information on how YOU can help, please contact Mike Eastman at or Janis Woods at
