Paulding Feed The Homeless Effort: Taste and See Ministries

Taste and See Ministries was founded in 2017. Our first goal was to feed the homeless a hot meal as much as possible. So with prayer, I followed God's lead and he sent me to reach out to a friend who pastors a church in Downtown Dallas. Once we discussed the plans as we really want a soup kitchen to serve the people of our community that go without food on a daily basis. The pastor's wife was thrilled to hear what we had plans of doing to work out God's ultimate plan. I was asked to come speak to the congregation and just make sure the Church body was aware of what the plan was and exactly how I plan to use their facility.
We started feeding in February of 2017 with a handful of volunteers The community was very thankful as they now a had a warm place to receive a hot meal and fellowship. We not only want to fill their belly we want to fill their soul and their heart and give them the love that the majority are lacking, These individuals are not all unsheltered homeless but they are homeless whether they are staying in extended stay motels or a friends house or a tent they are all homeless and struggling. We have a small food pantry in the back of the church that we can assist with needs sometimes. As we have grown to know these families we have learned where much of the struggle comes from and that is trying to keep a roof over their heads and food. We live in one of the richest countries in the world and yet just in this county (Paulding) alone, we have 380 homeless kids in our school system. This summer we provided sack lunches to the children in extended stay motels. This is a true heart warmer, they are literally waiting for us to get there with lunch every day. We assist in groceries, rent, and utilities, we also have provided families with crock pots that live in extended stay motels so they are able to pick healthier choices of food from the food pantry as opposed to all microwaveable dinners and snacks.We have so many success stories to tell about relocating families into permeant housing and get them on a track for success but right now we are trying to get our community involved in this problem we face and have a program that can serve these needy families hot meals 7 days a week. We need youth groups. women's ministries, PTA, corporate employees who need community service time. we need volunteers to assist so we can make this a success It would not require a commitment of more than once per month unless you are interested in more frequently.
We have a building that we are working toward as a community center for these individuals who need meals 3 times a day 7 days a week. Hot showers, Free laundry facility. Access to computers to apply for ID and jobs, etc. And with a lot of wonderful business in this county and individuals will also be an emergency overnight shelter. We will operate as close to a MUST ministry does as far as provided services which will require many more volunteers, but at this time we need prepared meals brought in and served.(new facility has kitchen) I would be happy to come speak to any group that you may feel is interested in getting started in this kind of volunteer/ministry work. we are a 501c3 non-profit so everything is tax deductible as we move closer to the opening of this mission that will be run solely off donations we ask you to prayerfully consider becoming a monthly partner to allow us to operate to the full of our potential to continue to serve. Every staff member will be volunteer only no paid staff at all but the funds will be for operating only. My motto is "It takes a village" and we are the only hope a lot of them have. thank you so much for your interest in this ministry It is my passion and I am following God's lead.
