Civil War Heritage Trail Marker Dedication And Hardee Camp Living History In New Hope.

civilwarThere will be a Civil War Heritage Trail Marker dedication service in New Hope at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 25th at the Pocket Park located beside New Hope First Baptist Church, at the corner of Bobo Road and Dallas Acworth Highway 381. Speakers to include Steve Longcrier, founder of Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails and Historian Norman Dasinger Jr. At the end of the service, there will be an Infantry gun and cannon salute. The two Markers to be dedicated are the Battle of New Hope Church and New Hope Church Cemetery. These markers along with two others near Dallas were sponsored by the Paulding County Board of Commissioners. Education and tourism are among the benefits of these markers, which are apart of the Atlanta Campaign Trail portion of the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trail's that run from Trenton, Georgia where the Federal Army first entered Georgia through Atlanta and the Battle of Jonesborough. The Gen William J. Hardee Camp # 1397 will be holding a Living History and relic display on Saturday, May 25th which will be the 155th anniversary of the Battle of New Hope Church. From 9:00am to 3:00pm, on the grounds of the Historic Second Baptist Church of New Hope. Across the street from the Atlanta Campaign Pocket Park. We will have re-enactors giving Infantry and cannon firing demonstrations during the day. There will be relics on display with many from the New Hope area. Member Dennis Deal will be identifying relics. Member Hugh Walters will again have Confederate Rose and native plants available for a donation to the Camp. There will also be historian's on hand to talk about the fighting and battles that took place in Paulding County in May and June of 1864.
