hiramHiram City Council held a public hearing earlier this week prior to the start of their regular session, for the purpose of receiving comment regarding a change in the method of calculating occupation taxes. The city is considering a method using a combination of gross receipts and profitability method and the fiscal impact for the city and for businesses.
In their previous work session council members also discussed the setting of the 2015-16 millage rate and plans to review the city’s tax digest.
Also in the work session council members discussed the South Forty Pass Drainage Study submitted by Stevenson & Palmer In the regular session that followed the public hearing, the council was expected to vote on whether or not to designate the areas in South Forty subdivision for storm water drainage project and authorize Stevenson & Palmer to proceed with engineering for a contract amount to be determined based on the areas designated.
And to specify the Nebo Road Paving Project sections and authorize Stevenson & Palmer to proceed with preparing the Bid documents for the project for $5000.00, as agreed upon.
The council was also expected to vote on whether or not to consider approval of increasing the engineering and construction management contract for the sewer lift station and Force Main with Croy Engineering, LLC from the original amount of $112,900.00 to $171,100.00 to be paid from General Fund/Sewer Money Market.
The council was expected to vote on whether or not to consider approval of Acquisition Proposal and Agreement with Croy Engineering in support of the Main Street Improvement Project in the amount of $21,900, to be paid from General Fund/Sewer Money Market.
And the council was expected to vote on whether or not to approve a quote provided by GAMETIME for poured rubber surfacing to be placed under the swing area in the Ben Hill Strickland Sr. Memorial Park playground in an amount not to exceed $10,465.00 to be paid using SPLOST funds.
The council was expected to vote on whether or not to approve the quote provided by WatchGuard for the purchase of four in-car camera systems in order to outfit new Police Vehicles. The quote for the purchase is $5907.00 per vehicle/$23628.00 total, plus any unforeseen costs associated with support, installation or shipping, to be paid with Police SPLOST funds.
The council was expected to vote on whether or not to consider the 2015-16 service contract with Fox Environmental to provide continuing technical support services to facilitate compliance with the state’s Stormwater Phase II Permit for the estimated cost of $26,250.00, to be paid out of Public Works, General Fund Maintenance & Operations budget.
And finally the council was expected to consider modifying the rental policy for The Events Place so that both rooms would be rented for all events as a single facility and the weekend rental rate would be set at $350.00.Hiram
