Dallas PD Accomplishments 2021

With the final 2021 crime statistics in, the City of Dallas enjoyed another resounding 17.4% average reduction in overall crime over the previous year. This is a great accomplishment because the police department responded to approximately 22,700 calls for service as compared to 19,681 in 2020. The Dallas Police Department attributes most of the city’s continued crime reduction success to training our officers in advanced policing techniques, strategic data-driven deployment of our officers, and the latest in crime-fighting technology. Below are a few of our accomplishments in the following areas for 2021:

Crime Reduction

• The City of Dallas was named in the top 15 safest cities out of over 500 municipalities in the State of Georgia.
• The police department has implemented several strategies that have resulted in approximately a 45% decrease in crime in the last 4 years with a 111% increase in calls for service:
• Creation of a Crime Suppression Unit.
• Creation of K-9 Unit.
• Creation of Community Policing position.

Community Service
Serving the community provides police departments with a relationship that promotes a higher level of success. We will continue growing our community policing efforts in order to build relationships that will prove to help us as a government (not just the police) meet the community’s needs:

• Community Programs such as the RAD Program, Active Shooter Seminars, and other programs.
• Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Community Camera Connect, Flock LPR’s, and Nixle.
• Creation of a “Citizens Police Academy”.

Training
Training is greatly important to help the growth and development of employees as well as improve morale and reduce liability. The department is focusing on the following:

• Improved Use of Force Training.
• Adopted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for defensive tactics training.

Technology

• The creation of a Primary 911 center within the City of Dallas through the use of “Broadband” technology has provided a direct line for our citizens to have faster public safety responses more than ever before as well as saving our city millions of dollars.
• Implementation of Body Cameras for each officer provides numerous benefits and greater transparency.
• Implemented the use of portable fingerprint scanners for suspect identification.

State CertificationThe Police Department achieved State Certification, following a three-year process, that brought about the following for our department:

• Confirmation that agency practices are consistent with the most progressive professional standards
• Greater operational and administrative effectiveness
• Reduced liability costs

Equipment We have been very fortunate to provide the best in equipment as we have purchased the following during the year:

• AR-15 Rifles
• Glock 43xr handguns to be used as backup weapons
• Pole Camera
• New force on force equipment to be used for training

In closing, as the Chief of Police, our most powerful and effective crime-fighting and prevention tool we have in Dallas is the trust and cooperation of our citizens. I am confident that we will continue to work to provide the utmost professional police services to the City of Dallas to ensure that 2022 will be our safest year yet.
