The South Paulding Boys Basketball Program is having a historical, record-breaking season. After finishing 2nd in the region to the state's number one team, Allatoona High, the Spartans took to the state tournament, facing up against #10 ranked Heritage. The Spartans got off to a hot start thanks to Senior Jalen Tolbert hitting two threes in the 1st half and great defensive play. Heritage battled back, talking the lead late, but big baskets made by Junior Ja'Cori Wilson and the Spartans' great defensive stops helped seal the victory at 62-58. Junior Kane Williams finished with 14 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds. The victory was really a whole-team effort; everyone who played scored and had at least two rebounds. Advancing to the Sweet 16, the Spartans faced off against #6 LaGrange on their home turf, a hostile environment. The gym was full of energy and filled to capacity; the Fire Marshall had to turn fans away! b ball 800Once again, the Spartans started off hot with big shots from Ja'Cori Wilson and Senior Anthony Brown. The Spartans led at the half by four,and were able to squeeze out the Win with great defensive stops by Senior Josh Simmons and 16 powerful rebounds by Anthony Brown. Kane Williams really helped the team push through by scoring a season-high 33 points. South led LaGrange 62-60 with seconds left and got a vital stop to seal the victory. The Spartans advance to the Elite 8 for the first time in school history, where they match up against #2 Miller Grove at Columbus State this Friday for a 4:45pm tip off.
