Wender & Roberts Pharmacy, a historic Atlanta Pharmacy brand is thrilled to be joining the community of Dallas. Curl's Pharmacy, a Dallas institution, which has been under new ownership since October of last year, will be undergoing a name change and Grand Reopening on April 8, 2016. This event will have the Paulding Chamber of Commerce forming a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am  along with the Varsity restaurant catering free lunch for the first 500 visitors to participate from 11:30 until 1:30. There will also be a raffle as well as special discounts.
Wender & Roberts Pharmacy was established in 1918 and is now currently owned and managed by Loren Pierce. Recently we were given the opportunity to interview Mr. Pierce. Mr. Pierce, who, himself, has been a small town pharmacist for over 25 years, is very passionate about the importance of customer service and the relationship that the local independent pharmacy has with its community.

1. What is the importance of an independent pharmacy?
For years, pharmacists have ranked as one of the most trusted professionals in the US. Being an independent pharmacist, we take that expertise and weave it into the fabric of our community.  Developing relationships in our business is paramount as no amount of technology or medical record can substitute for having a one on one relationship with a healthcare professional who knows you personally and can offer the piece of mind and benefits you can't receive from a big box store or mail order pharmacy.

2. What are the challenges facing independent pharmacies?
We are challenged like everyone else. There is not enough time in the day, so we turn to minimize the stops we make.  Since we are not publicly traded, we don't have the resources to have a location on every corner.  For those that understand however, they will find that a couple of minutes drive to our location combined with minimal wait times more than subsidizes the hours waiting to have their prescriptions filled at a chain store.

3. Why Dallas and why the name change?
I was raised in metro Atlanta and have always been fond of Dallas. I'm particularly proud of the way the community has been able to uphold its ability to make Main Street a viable and thriving place to do business. We are truly blessed to be part of such a great town. While we realize the importance and history of the current name, we made the difficult decision to change the name to coincide with the other parts of Atlanta we are in.  This is mostly in part so we can still operate as an independent, but better utilize our strengths in purchasing and operations to be more competitive in the marketplace.

4. Can you please share with us a little bit about the history and goals of Wender & Roberts pharmacy?
We realize we are all just 'passing through' in this world.   I feel very grateful that I have had the opportunity to 'carry the torch' for many of these independent pharmacists and continue the legacy they started many years ago.  Independent pharmacy is thriving, but is only as good as the community that supports it.  I'm also grateful to the citizens of Dallas for supporting us and look forward to many years of serving this community.
With regards to our history, Wender & Roberts Pharmacy was founded in 1918 by William Max Wender and Marvin Roberts as a family oriented neighborhood drugstore where the customer comes first. Atlanta has changed a lot since 1918, but our commitment to you and your family’s health has not.
