Patriots Explode in OT Win Against Hornets

Hiram, GA - With just minutes left in the game Friday night, the Hiram Hornets led the Paulding County Patriots by a score of 21-7. That is, until someone lit a fire under the Patriots. Junior quarterback #17 Brantley Mauldin led the Patriots on back-to- back drives, scoring a touchdown and then quickly scoring again after PC recovered the onside kick. Mauldin and his team quickly drove down the field and scored on a short touchdown pass with 21 seconds left to tie the game 21-21 and put the game into overtime. The Hornets had first possession on offense but were unable to score and turned the ball over on downs to Paulding County. The Patriots took advantage on the first play from scrimmage when senior running back #31 Tyrese Hart took the ball from the 15 yard line into the end zone to give the Patriots their second win and first region win of the year. Their record climbs to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in region 7AAAAA play while the Hornets are also 2-1 but 0-1 in region play. The Patriots host the Kell Longhorns while the Hornets travel to Cass to play the Colonels in Cartersville with kickoff for both game scheduled for 7:30.
