SOUTH SWEEPS ALEXANDER

The South Paulding boys and girls varsity basketball teams continued to have success as they defeated formidable foes at home in Region play. The girls continued to consistently perform well as they defeated Alexander 59-48 in a game in which they were in control throughout. The girls are currently in 4th place in the region 5 (6A). The boys game was a thriller with South coming out on top 52-50 in front of a packed gym on both sides. The Spartans going into the game were ranked #1 in the state in some polls and the Cougars were also ranked 7th.
South started out red hot and jumped out to a 23-10 lead to close the first quarter. However, Alexander showed their prowess and bounced back in the 2nd quarter to pull within 2 at halftime 27-25. The rest of the game was a back and forth affair with the lead changing hands several times. South took the lead for good and was able to hold on to the buzzer in a nail biter. South will play Langston Hughes from Fairburn this week at home in what should be another close match. Hughes is ranked 2nd in the state. Come out and support the Spartans on the hardwood.
