Paulding County’s first All-Star Basketball Game was held this past Saturday at South Paulding High School. The games, organized by South Paudling coaches Gil Davis, Kelly Nye-Hickson, and Kip Dyer, were a hit, both with the seniors that participated and the crowd who came to watch.
Chick-fil-A of Dallas and Hiram were kind enough to be our title sponsors and provide a banquet for the seniors and coaches. Guest speaker Marlon Longacre spoke to the athletes before the game about following your dreams and staying motivated throughout their lives. The evening’s festivities kicked off with a three-point contest for the ladies, won by a Hiram senior.
The girls’ game was a riveting contest between Southeastern and Northwestern teams, with the Southeastern team (composed of players from Hiram and South Paulding) pulling a victory. The Northwestern team (North Paulding, Woodland, and Lithia Springs) worked hard, but was unable to come back. The MVP of the girls’ game was Senior Anicka Cephas from Hiram High School. Next the boys took the court for a three-point and dunk contest, with winners from Lithia Springs and South Paulding.
In the boys’ game, the Southeastern team was once again victorious, with seniors from South Paulding, North Paulding, and Lithia Springs securing a victory. Funny antics from the Northwestern team (Hiram and Paulding County) made the game one that will not be forgotten. The boys’ MVP was Tyric Mostiller from Lithia Springs High. All players were presented with a plaque donated from Paulding Trophies. This was certainly a success and a wonderful way to celebrate these seniors.
All Coaches representing all the county Schools really stepped up and put forth a great effort to make this event special. From the beginning of this process all the coaches from the schools were on board with this event and wanted to do whatever they could to help out to make this event great. Paulding County can look forward to this game each year!
