The Hiram Hornets basketball team advanced to the final 4 in the State tournament last week and came up short in the semifinal matchup against a tough Miller Grove squad from Lithonia by a score of 54-41.
Recently, Students from the NPHS Fly Fishing & Cold Water Conservation Club had a great day fishing for trout in the Chattahoochee River. It was a rainy day, but all of the Students caught fish! They were assisted by members of the Cohutta Chapter of Trout Unlimited and North Georgia Trout Online.
Georgia Highlands College has appointed Melanie Largin as the new dean of Mathematics and Computer Science. Largin will oversee the Division of Mathematics, which includes areas of studies in mathematics, computer science, computer information systems, and more. Largin graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial and systems engineering.
Hiram High School celebrates as high school seniors sign athletic scholarships as they prepare for college. National Signing Day is where senior student-athletes officially accept scholarships offered by universities and colleges.
Genevieve Smith at Hiram Elementary is truly a fair person! Mrs. Nikki Stewart’s 2nd-grade class chose Genevieve as January’s Character Kid for the word "Fairness".
Teachers at Clear Creek Elementary school received a grant for $500 to build an augmented reality sandbox, they came to Georgia Highlands College for help. Dean of Natural Sciences and Physical Education Greg Ford said the entire setup for a mobile unit would have cost closer to $2,000.
The Hiram Hornets advanced in the state basketball tournament on Saturday night with a hard-fought win over a tough Cedar Shoals squad from Athens by a score of 39-35. Paulding County Falls 79-67 to Clarke Central. South Paulding girls fell to Harrison 79-49 in the first round.
The Paulding County Patriots boys basketball team are headed to the State tournament for the second consecutive year. The Patriots earned the #3 seed from region 7 (5A). The Patriots defeated Kell and Cass to claim their spot in the State tournament.
Xinia Smith-Camacho was born in Costa Rica. Her first language is Spanish. In 2009, her family moved to America. The only way she could communicate was through her art. She has worked at GHC for three years. She said she is happy to work at a place where “people admire what she does.”
Hiram Elementary School has some very special athletes! These athletes represented HES at the 2018 Winter Olympics Bowling Tournament hosted at Stars and Strikes. Courtney Birchell earned a First Place ribbon.
