Celebrating Service: Past, Present, and Future

Dallas mckennaMcKenna Farms Therapy Services and the Rotary Club of Dallas both launched their organizations in 2001. It became apparent; although their Visions and Missions were distinctly different there was a common commitment to community service. It was also obvious to the Rotary Club that McKenna Farms embraced fully the value expressed in the Rotary Motto, “Service Above Self”. Club members were eager to provide support in McKenna’s quest to provide therapy for special needs children in Paulding and neighboring counties. The relationship between the two organizations has continued throughout the ensuing years, partnering in multiple endeavors to expand the facilities and resources available for meeting the needs of children and families.
A multitude of individuals and organizations have contributed to the growth that has been realized. In 2001 McKenna served 10 Patients, employed one physical therapist assistant, and enjoyed the help of five volunteers. Presently, McKenna is providing services to 500 clients a week from Paulding, Cobb and surrounding counties, employing over 23 therapists and maintaining a steady base of 250 volunteers.  Founder and Executive Director, Jessica Moore recently observed, “We are thankful for every individual and organization that has contributed to our development and grateful that the Rotary Club of Dallas has been the one service organization that has continuously supported us throughout the years.”
Zee and pony gpThe Rotary Club of Dallas’ latest contribution just completed was to retrofit one of the previously donated modular classrooms to provide three additional therapy rooms. Past President Brian Otott stated, “The Rotary Club of Dallas has been honored to support McKenna Farms and the wonderful work they do for the youth of our community. Our club committed to remodeling a mobile unit to better meet the needs of the staff and their clients. This project fit directly with the goals of Rotary and our clubs focus on supporting the needs of our community. The Rotary Club of Dallas looks forward to continuing our relationship with McKenna Farms and the children and families they serve.” In a recent business session presided over by Teresa Janiga, President for 2016-2017, the club voted to provide greater usable space for therapy purposes by remodeling an additional modular unit.
McKenna’s challenging vision for future expansion of therapy facilities includes the building of an aquatic center that will enable them to provide a much needed form of physical therapy for their clients. Individuals and organizations desiring to assist in making this dream become reality can receive information by contacting Jessica Moore at McKenna Farms, 770-443-9672. The Rotary Club of Dallas extends an open invitation to anyone who would like to learn more about the organization, inquire concerning membership or to attend one of their weekly club meetings. Information relating to time and place of meetings can be found on their Facebook page, Rotary Club of Dallas Georgia.
