burn 2Dallas, Georgia, December 4, 2023. At 2:01 pm on Monday, December 4, Paulding County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1243 Macland Road in Dallas, GA.
The initial 911 call, placed by a family member who had escaped the residence, reported heavy smoke and fire coming from a bathroom. The frantic caller also advised 911 Communication Officers that someone was trapped on the second level to the rear of the home. Just over two minutes after being dispatched, PCFD's Deputy Chief and a Division Chief, who had been driving in the area, arrived on the scene along with four Paulding County Sheriff's Deputies.
Those first arriving responders attempted to make entry but were pushed back by heavy black smoke and fire. Seconds later, PCFD Engine 3 arrived and commenced a rapid interior search & rescue, finding the semi-conscious victim in a rear hallway. The male victim was quickly pulled to safety and awaiting professionals from PCFD and Metro EMS rendered life-saving aid. As additional PCFD units arrived, fire suppression operations commenced, and the fire was declared under control at 2:17 pm.
The 46-year-old male victim, whose name has not yet been released, suffered severe burns as well as smoke inhalation. He was flown by helicopter to Wellstar Cobb Hospital's burn unit, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The American Red Cross personnel assisted the family with temporary housing and provided necessities as the fire significantly damaged the home.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No Firefighters or Sheriff's Deputies were injured. Further details will be distributed as they become available.
