Hiram Police Explorers Win Trophies in Regional Competition
On February 11, 2017 City of Hiram Police Explorers with Post 1891 competed in a regional law enforcement explorer competition in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Eight members of the twelve-member Explorer POST were involved in the bringing home trophies from the six law enforcement related scenarios they competed in.
During the annual Winterfest competition, Post 1891 Explorers were up against 84 other law enforcement explorer teams who were competing in various law enforcement related scenarios.
The Hiram Explorers trains bi-weekly with Hiram Police Officers who serve as advisors. The explorers were trained to be familiar with rules of search & seizure, subject contacts, active shooter, traffic stops, bomb threats, crime scene investigations and other current law enforcement challenges.
The Hiram Explorers earned a 1 st place trophy in the category of Uniform Inspection and a 3 rd place trophy in Suspicious Death Investigation. They also gained certificates of placement as follows: 7 th place in Unknown Trouble, 10th place in Bomb Threat, 16th place in Active Shooter and 25th place in Officer Survival.The Explorers were praised by their Explorer Advisors; Officer Tyler Third who is the Explorer Director and Sergeant Stephen Johnston, who traveled with the young men to the competition, stating “though they would have liked to bring home more trophies, they performed to the best of their ability, based on the training they received," said the advisors. "We are up for the challenge next year and plan on building on our knowledge base to learn more techniques for next year’s competition.” Officer Third and Sergeant Johnston encourage any teen age 14-20 who may be interested in the Explorer program to come visit a meeting or contact them for more information on joining the program.
The Hiram Police Explorer Post is funded by generous donations and grants by local businesses as well as the Honorable Mayor and Council of the City of Hiram.
