(Paulding County, GA) At a ceremony held at the Paulding County Courthouse on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Sergeant Wesley Mullins and Deputy James Williams were presented with the Life Saving Award by Sheriff Gary Gulledge.
On June 3, 2024, Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams were dispatched to a medical call in the Probate Court office area of the Paulding County Courthouse. Initial reports indicated that a male employee was having a seizure.
When the Deputies arrived, they came in contact with a Probate Court employee whose face was purple in color, they were unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Another Probate Court employee was administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) when the Deputies arrived on the scene. Deputy Williams then took over CPR while Sergeant Mullins went to retrieve the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Once Sergeant Mullins returned, they attached the AED to the employee’s body and administered a shock. Deputy Williams then continued CPR. Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams were able to notice a change of color to the employee’s body and the employee began to take some short breaths. A short time later, Paulding Fire/Rescue arrived on scene and took over care of the employee.
Because of Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams’ quick actions, the life of the Probate Court employee was ultimately saved. Since the date of the incident, the employee has recovered and been back to work.
Sheriff Gary Gulledge stated, “Without the quick thinking and decisive action taken by Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams, the employee’s life might not have been saved. I, along with the employee’s family, am forever grateful for what those Deputies did that day. I am proud beyond measure of Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams.
We would like to congratulate Sergeant Mullins and Deputy Williams on a job well done.Mullins WilliamsLSAPhoto
