Dallas, GA — August 23, 2025, The Dallas Civic Center was filled with gratitude, fellowship, and hometown pride on Saturday night as neighbors and friends gathered for the inaugural Dr. S.U. Braly Scholarship Fundraiser and Award Dinner to benefit the Wellstar Foundation and Braly Scholarship Fund. The evening celebrated not only the legacy of Dr. S.U. Braly but also the service of two community pillars, while raising more than $15,000 to help local students pursue careers in healthcare.
Honoring Community Leaders
The highlight of the night was the presentation of the S.U. Braly Community Impact Award to Jane Ragsdale and Loran Wills.
Jane Ragsdale has dedicated more than 30 years to healthcare in Paulding County, serving as a Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing, and later as Director of Quality Management, Risk Manager, and Infection Control Practitioner at Paulding Memorial Hospital. Alongside her professional leadership, she chaired the Braly Scholarship Fund Committee for over 43 years, helping provide educational opportunities to local students.
Loran Wills has spent a lifetime shaping healthcare in Paulding, beginning with his 1954 pledge to support the county’s first hospital. He went on to serve 46 years on the Paulding County Hospital Authority, most of them as chairman, guiding the system through milestones such as its integration into Wellstar and the opening of the new Wellstar Paulding Medical Center in 2014. His steady leadership and quiet generosity have left a lasting mark on the community.
A Scholarship With Deep Roots
The Braly Scholarship Fund was established in 1978 to honor the life and work of the late Dr. S.U. Braly, whose service as a physician left a lasting imprint on Paulding County. The scholarship committee began awarding service scholarships in 1982, and it remains one of the oldest and continuously running scholarships in the county.
Over the past 43 years, the fund has awarded more than 80 scholarships to over 60 recipients. Today, the Braly Scholarship proudly partners with the Wellstar Foundation’s educational scholarships, expanding its reach and impact.
Recognizing the 2025 Winner

A proud Haitian American and first-generation college graduate, Sheena earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with Highest Honors from Georgia Tech and is now pursuing a graduate degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. With a strong academic record, early clinical experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and a deep commitment to community service, she represents the very mission of the Braly Scholarship.
