STAR Photo 600x400The six seniors named 2015 PAGE STAR Students for the Paulding County school district were announced Tuesday, February 17, by Mr. Terry Hardy, president, MembersFirst Credit Union and Chairman of the Paulding Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has been the local sponsor for this program for over 50 years.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR )program, now in its 57th year, is sponsored administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation. Since its inception, the STAR program has honored nearly 25,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement. To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. Students then compete for school system titles, and those winners compete for region honors. Region winners compete for the honor of being named State PAGE STAR student.

PCCC 470x160Winners are, South Paulding High School – STAR student Brandon Sutherland and STAR Teacher Ms. Shannon Parris, Paulding County High School – STAR Student Drew Tichenor and STAR teacher Mr. Matthew Putman, Hiram High School (tie) – STAR Student Anna Ragsdale and STAR Teacher Ms. Rie Cowan and STAR Student Leanna Caro and STAR Teacher Mrs. Allison Chapman, North Paulding High School STAR Student Haley Eckert and STAR Teacher Mr. Jason Goodman, and the overall System Winner from East Paulding High School STAR Student Caroline Basch and STAR Teacher Mrs. Angela Howard.
