American Legion Auxiliary Donates $3,000 to “Cops for Kids”

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111 in Dallas recently donated $3,000.00 to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department “Cops for Kids” Christmas shopping event. The program, which pairs Deputies with underprivileged children for a Christmas shopping trip seeks to “promote positive interaction with the young people of Paulding County and the Sheriff’s Office.”
The “world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization,” the American Legion Auxiliary’s motto is “Service, Not Self.” True to their mission, the local Paulding County Auxiliary has a long-standing tradition of providing Christmas gifts to local children. In prior years, Unit 111, led by Wanda Callahan, President, and Tammy Mann, First Vice, would shop for specific children in the County to ensure that they had Christmas gifts. However, this year, “Cops for Kids” was selected as the recipient of the Auxiliary’s main gift. After the check presentation, Paulding County Sheriff, Gary Gulledge, shared with the group how “Cops for Kids” was started as a simple act of law enforcement giving back to the local children. The now annual shopping event, just concluded its eighteenth year.
