The Paulding County High School’s JROTC Patriot Battalion JLAB Academic Team competed in its first ever trip to the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) National Championships in Washington DC this summer. The Paulding County HS JROTC Academic team earned top scores out of the 1,498 Army JROTC teams that competed from around the world. The team was one of only twenty- four Army JROTC Academic Bowl teams in the nation to advance to the National Academic Bowl competition, which included an all-expense paid trip to the Championship event in DC.
During the fast paced Jeopardy styled head to head competition, Cadets were tested on their knowledge of English, Math, History, Science, and Current Event subjects. One of the main goals of the JROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT. “We are so proud of these four Cadets who brought the Patriot Battalion to another level of excellence as the only academic team from Georgia and 1 of the top 24 Army academic teams in the Nation to compete”, said LTC (R) Greg McAfee the Senior Army Instructor. “The competition was fierce, and our team performed and represented us well”, said LTC McAfee.
The trip also included an opportunity to meet other Cadets from around the country, a photo opportunity with Miss America and a field trip to Washington DC and Arlington National Cemetery. Congratulations to Cadets Aaron Stark, Mitchell Janke, Talon Bruno, and Brandon Lucas for their hard work and dedication to excellence. LTC McAfee went on to say, “we have definitely sparked a legacy of achievement that we hope to match and improve upon in the future”.pc jrotc800 1pc jrotc800 2pc jrotc800 3
