PATRIOTS TAME WILDCATS 31-24
The Paulding County Patriots improved to 2-4 (2-2) as they traveled south to Villa Rica 5-2(3-2) and upset the Wildcats on their homecoming game. The victory was a critical one for the Patriots as they needed a win in order to keep the hopes of a playoff birth within their grasps. The Wildcats relied on their strong ground attack and the Patriots countered by doing most of their damage through the air.
The Patriots took a 24-14 lead into the half but saw the Wildcats battle back in the 2nd half to tie the game with 5 minutes remaining with a 35 yard field goal. Brantley Mauldin then guided the Patriots down the field on an 89 yard drive that ate up most of the remaining time before Smael Mondon dashed in from 6 yards out to give the Patriots the lead for good. The defense held Villa Rica on downs to win the game.

Patriot freshman Smael Mondon goes over the top from 2 yards out to score one of his 2 touchdowns . Mondon also recovered a key fumble in the 2nd half to halt a Wildcat scoring threat.
Tyrone Summerour added punting to his duties and was a key to the victory, his punts often flipped the field to the Patriots advantage. Summerour also caught a 12 yard touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter.
Brantley Mauldin was calm under pressure as he played flawless under center driving the Patriots down the field 89 yards in crunch time. The Patriots travel to Bartow County next week to face a much improved Woodland squad.
A common site was the Patriot defense swarming to the ball.
