The National Geographic Society has held an annual Geography Bee for students in grades 4-8 for the past 31 yrs. (since 1989). Alex Trebek hosted the partially televised national level "Nat GeoBee" for 25 yrs., then Soledad O'Brien, and since 2016 the host has been Mo Rocca. Students compete first at the school/regional level, then each school's 1st place winner takes a 70 question state qualifying test.
Chairman David Carmichael signed the attached Ordinance 20-03 “A Declaration of a State of Emergency in Paulding County” arising because of COVID-19. This Ordinance outlines the immediate emergency measures for Paulding County through the Chairman’s Emergency Authority.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) responded to the scene and immediately launched their investigation. Troopers believe that the victim, who was later identified as Aaron Quarterman, (B/M, 24 YOA), was struck as he walked down the side of Dallas Acworth Highway.
Paulding County Rotary Club welcomed Mary Frances Bowley to our March club meeting. Introduced by member John Kueven of Paulding WellStar, Mrs. Bowley is the Executive Director and founder of Wellspring Living. Wellspring Living is a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Georgia that provides domestic sex trafficking victims and those at risk with specialized recovery services through three residential programs and two community-based programs.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office is taking steps to ensure the wellness and safety of our employees, citizens, and inmates. With that being said, Sheriff Gary Gulledge announced today that several changes to our internal policy and procedures will occur to help maintain a safe and healthy environment at the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and Jail will be closed to the public until further notice. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office will continue to respond to all emergency calls for service and will still operate our Jail. If you need to file a non-emergency report, please contact the Paulding E-911 non-emergency line at (770) 445-2117 and a Deputy will contact you back to take your report over the telephone.
Hiram Police Department officers were dispatched to the Sam’s Club (4798 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway) within the city limits of Hiram in reference to an assault in progress. Several officers arrived on the scene within minutes to discover two males with injuries, and a small crowd gathered around the incident location. Paulding County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded as well to the initial call in order to assist Hiram Police Department officers.
The Paulding Retired Educators met on March 10th at the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce. A breakfast memorial meeting was held to honor two long time members who have passed away, Jerry Hollis and Billy Freeman. Brenda Ragsdale shared her memories of Jerry Hollis in the classroom.
Chattahoochee Technical College welding students excelled at the North Georgia Welding Competition sponsored by Xcel Strategies in Paulding County, placing first and second in the team project challenge, and placing first in the individual challenge. The competition was held Saturday, March 7, at the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport.
